This cottage is fabulous—just like Jane, the lady the cottage is named in honour of.
Jane Susan Guimaraens (nee Beames) was born in Crystal Brook Hospital in rural South Australia in 1963. Her family returned to Adelaide when she was one and she later attended Forbes Primary School then Methodist Ladies College for her high school years. In Year 12 she led and conducted her school choir of 60 students in a competition which they won. She also excelled at Ballet School and enjoyed playing netball.
Jane trained as a nurse at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Adelaide and when qualified worked in Darwin. With a strong sense of adventure, she then travelled to London
When Jane returned to Adelaide she decided to try a new career. She enrolled in Wine Marketing at Roseworthy Agricultural College and graduated top of her class. While studying she met David Guimaraens, a student from Portugal who was undertaking an Oenology degree.
In 1991 Jane and David married in the lovely old Wesley Uniting Church in Adelaide and moved shortly after to Oporto, Portugal where David continued the family tradition of wine making and Jane worked in the wine marketing field.
Jane loved her life in Portugal but life can deal some cruel blows and Jane’s illness unrelenting. Sadly at the age of just 31, Jane passed away from bowel cancer, leaving behind her family, friends and 2 year old son Sam.
Jane had a short life but a rich one. She loved to have fun, travel, cook and entertain. Above all, Jane cared for people and took an interest in them. Right to the end she remained positive, displaying courage and tranquillity. Jane was a shining example of strength in adversity.
Jane’s Cottage has 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry and a private courtyard.
